Krishnamurti & the Art of Awakening

Annual Retreat and Course for Teachers in Ojai, California June 22nd – July 1st 2012

Teaching Academy

Re-envisioning Education and the Craft of Teaching

"Right education is a mutual task demanding patience, consideration and affection. Enlightened teachers in an enlightened community could work out this problem of how to bring up children, and experiments along these lines should be made on a small scale by interested teachers and thoughtful parents."

You are invited to spend 9 days in the former home of Krishnamurti exploring with fellow educators what it means to meet the questions and challenges Krishnamurti put to teachers, parents, and schools - as we face them in our everyday lives as educators.

The daily program includes readings, videos, dialogues, role play, classroom observation (film excerpts), reflective writing, vegetarian group meals, walks in nature, and time for reflection and silence.

KEC, located at Pine Cottage on the grounds of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America, is nestled in the Ojai foothills on 11 acres of orange and avocado orchards. On the same campus, there is also The Pepper Tree Retreat with ten guest rooms in a vintage 1910 farmhouse. Reduced rates are available for participants of the retreat/course.

"Are you experimenting with my teachings, or are you experimenting with yourself? I hope you see the difference. If you are experimenting with what I am saying, then you must come to, “What now?” because then you are trying to achieve a result which you think I have. You think I have something which you do not have, and that if you experiment with what I am saying, you also will get it—which is what most of us do. We approach these things with a commercial mentality—I will do this in order to get that. I will worship, meditate, sacrifice in order to get something.

Now, you are not practicing my teachings. I have nothing to say. Or rather, all that I am saying is: Observe your own mind, see to what depths the mind can go; therefore you are important, not the teachings. It is important for you to find out your own ways of thinking and what that thinking implies... And if you are really observing your own thinking, if you are watching, experimenting, discovering, letting go, dying each day to everything that you have gathered, then you will never put that question, “What now?”
